TULSA, Okla. (AP) Tulsa police officers will be randomly tested for five kinds of drugs under a new contract reached between the city and the police union.
Beginning June 1, the city will be able to test for marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates and PCP.
Deputy Police Chief Daryl Webster says the policy requires that the equivalent of one-fourth of the department be tested annually, although officers can be tested more than once in a year.
Webster says officers will be sent to treatment and rehabilitation for their first positive test, but subsequent tests will be punishable after an internal affairs investigation.
Officers who test positive could also face two years of periodic testing.
The program is expected to cost the city $16,640 per year.
