OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma drivers would have a longer grace period for renewing their license under legislation headed to the state House floor.

The measure by Rep. John Trebilcock of Broken Arrow allows an expired Oklahoma driver's license to be considered a valid form of identification for renewing the license for up to 30 days past its expiration date.

Trebilcock says the measure would eliminate a lot of inconvenience for Oklahoma drivers.

Currently, the day after a license expires it becomes an invalid form of identification for renewal. That forces drivers to provide another form of I.D. such as a birth certificate to renew their license. Trebilcock says that's an unnecessary chore.

The measure was approved by the House Public Safety Committee.
