Chris Medlock

The Chris Medlock Show is heard from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays!
Born and raised in the city he loves, Chris Medlock is a third-generation Tulsan.
A graduate of the now defunct Charles C. Mason High School in south Tulsa, Chris is almost entirely the product of Oklahoma schools. He holds a B. S. in Marketing (which he says is redundant) from Northeastern State University, and while in his early thirties, attended the University of Tulsa’s Graduate Business School for nearly two years. While at TU, Chris was on full scholarship as a Mayo Scholar.
Married over a quarter-century, Chris lives in south Tulsa with his wife Cheryl, their niece and four golden retrievers. “We sweep the floors a lot,” Chris says.
Chris has made a career out of changing careers. He’s been a professional cook, sold electronics on commission, served as a marketing analyst, a product manager and a marketing and communications consultant, among other jobs.
After years as a grassroots Republican activist, Chris took his conservative values to Tulsa’s City Hall, serving three tumultuous years on the Tulsa City Council, representing Southwest Tulsa’s District 2.
It was during his second year on the council that Medlock was forced, along with fellow Republican councilor Jim Mautino, to fend off a recall effort that was organized by a handful of special interest groups from the development industry, who were unhappy with votes taken by Medlock, Mautino and three other councilors. The bipartisan bloc of reform minded councilors were dubbed the “Gang of Five,” by the liberal local paper, and Chris was labeled as a “cartel leader” by the bombastic head of the local chamber of commerce.
“They wanted us out simply because we stuck to our principles on key issues and didn’t bow to their influence,” Chris recalls. “We didn’t break any laws, violate any moral standards, we just formed a majority voting block that some powerful people found inconvenient.”
Chris credits his survival in the recall effort to KFAQ, former morning hosts Michael Delgiorno and Gwen Freeman. “If it weren’t for KFAQ and the station’s amazing listeners,” Chris says, “Jim and I would’ve been toast!”
Chris left the council to run for mayor, barely losing in the primary, in a grassroots effort to unseat the incumbent mayor, Bill LaFortune.
Chris’ hobbies include reading (history, pubic affairs and news), computers, art and graphic design, cooking, do-it-yourself home repair, crossword puzzles, photography, politics, writing my blog and our dogs. “Very rarely am I ever bored,” he quips.
“I’m excited about this new challenge and the opportunity that KFAQ has given me,” Medlock says. “But I’m especially excited about KFAQ’s association with Oklahoma State Cowboy athletics.” Chris and Cheryl have been OSU fans for 31 years
