TULSA (FOX 23) A Tulsa Public school teacher is put in handcuffs and accused of assaulting a student.
41-year-old, Maurice Parker was arrested for second degree rape. He's a teacher at Central High School. The district tells us, he's been suspended with pay pending an investigation.
According to Tulsa Police, the 18-year old student and Parker had consensual sex three times at Parker's home between December 22nd and January 17th.
Parker has since been put on paid administrative leave with TPS pending the outcome of this investigation.
Although the girl is 18 and investigators tell us the sex was consensual, Parker was arrested on complaints of second degree rape.
"The fact is that he is her teacher and by state statute, that is second degree rape," says Officer Jason Willingham.
Parker is now out of jail on a $25,000 bond.
Students at Central High School have a lot to say about what happened.
"I wouldn't say it's rape because they did it multiple times, so it's kind of both their fault, plus she was 18 at the time, so I wouldn't say it's rape," says Central High student, Joshwah Moore.
For now, TPS is waiting on more information from the police department before deciding what to do about Parker.
This is the Oklahoma statute regarding rape:
Ok Statute Title 21 Ch. 45 Section 1111 paragraph 8
Where the victim is at least sixteen (16) years of age and is less than twenty (20) years of age and is a student, or under the legal custody or supervision of any public or private elementary or secondary school, junior high or high school, or public vocational school, and engages in sexual intercourse with a person who is eighteen (18) years of age or older and is an employee of the same school system.
Parker has been employed at Tulsa Public School since 1997 and also taught at Monroe.
TPS officials say Parker was suspended with pay on Wednesday.
