MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) Federal prosecutors want a former Tahlequah attorney and his wife to go to jail for allegedly impeding the government's attempt to collect back taxes from them.
A motion was filed Wednesday in Muskogee federal court seeking to have Nathan Young the Third and Carol Young placed in custody for contempt of court.
According to court records, the Youngs are accused of not paying taxes for seven years dating to 1993. A court-ordered sale of their home last year brought in $125,000, but that leaves a balance of more than $400,000 to the Internal Revenue Service and more than $56,000 to the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
A Department of Justice tax attorney says the documents they're seeking could determine whether the Youngs have other assets that can be liquidated to satisfy the judgment.
